- Absorption : To take in or up (i.e. light waves are absorbed by dark materials).
- Adaption : A change in structure, form, or habits to fit different conditions..
- Anthocynarin : Any of a group of pigments in the cell sap of plants which produce red, blue, lavender and purple colours of petals or fruits.
- Axis : An imaginary or real line that passes through an object and about which an object turns or seems to turn. The earth axis of rotation passes through the North and South Poles.
- Camouflage : A means of concealment to make one part of the natural surroundings.
- Celestral Equator : A great circle of the celestial sphere, the plane which is perpendicular to the axis of the earth.
- Deciduous : Loses its leaves annually.
- Dormancy : A condition of not growing or germinating.
- Equinox : Either one of the two times in a year when the centre of the sun crosses the celestial equator and day and night are equal lengths in all parts of the world (March 21, September 23).
- Hibernation : To spend the winter in a sleep-like state or in an inactive condition.
- Migration : The seasonal movement of animals from one place or region to another.
- Pooter : Tool for collecting insects.
- Predator : An animal that preys (attacks for food) upon another.
- Prey : An animal that is a food source for a predator.
- Revolution : A complete circular cycle of a heavenly body (i.e. planet Earth) as it turns on its axis.
- Solstice : Either one of the two times in a year when the sun is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator (December 21, June 21).
