The Titanic sank on the night of April 14, 1912 after striking an iceberg in the North Atlantic. Within minutes of colliding, water began pouring into the lower decks. Less than 3 hours later, the propellers started to rise out of the water. More than 1500 people were left on board - for them, there was little hope of escape. . . .
